The Seven Deadly Attitudes About Sales

Behind this door lie the 7 deadly attitudes about sales and customers.  Will this look familiar?

  1. One-time training should stick!  Follow up with sales staff is way too time-consuming, and besides, aren't we paying sales staff to be sales experts?
  2. New business and sales is all that matters.  Customer service and back office support people just solve problems and details, and should not require training investment.
  3. We need all the customers we can get, so we never turn away business.
  4. We spend a lot of money on marketing, so sales should be communicating that marketing message we've paid for!
  5. Most of our business is with existing customers, so we don't need to focus on business development that much.
  6. We always say the customer is ALWAYS right, no matter what, (but we sure grumble behind the scenes a lot about lost time and revenue in some cases).
  7. As an executive, how could I possibly hold every last person accountable for customer satisfaction?  It sounds nice, but it's impossible.
