The Seven Deadly Attitudes About Sales
Behind this door lie the 7 deadly attitudes about sales and customers. Will this look familiar?
- One-time training should stick! Follow up with sales staff is way too time-consuming, and besides, aren't we paying sales staff to be sales experts?
- New business and sales is all that matters. Customer service and back office support people just solve problems and details, and should not require training investment.
- We need all the customers we can get, so we never turn away business.
- We spend a lot of money on marketing, so sales should be communicating that marketing message we've paid for!
- Most of our business is with existing customers, so we don't need to focus on business development that much.
- We always say the customer is ALWAYS right, no matter what, (but we sure grumble behind the scenes a lot about lost time and revenue in some cases).
- As an executive, how could I possibly hold every last person accountable for customer satisfaction? It sounds nice, but it's impossible.
